Equine Science    

Equine Science provides in-depth coverage of various breeds, the anatomy and physiology of the horse and horse management. The course considers the relationships of conformation, proper function and the development of unsoundness. Disease, preventive health care and nutrition are studied in detail. The third term is devoted to practical subjects such as treatments, medications, stable management and facility design. There are class practicals on a variety of topics with regular sessions at the school’s barn and with the school’s veterinarian. The course is open to juniors and seniors and others by permission of the department. Prerequisite: Biology. This elective course is three trimesters in length and does not count as a lab science credit.
