Precalculus

This course will strengthen students’ background in algebra, geometry and trigonometry in preparation for the study of calculus. This course includes a review of polynomial, exponential, and trigonometric functions as well as an introduction to limits and derivatives. Applications of topics in a variety of situations are studied, and students use graphing calculators throughout. Precalculus is also offered in an honor track. Precalculus Honors offers a faster-paced version of Precalculus with more challenging problems. This course is required of students going on to High Level International Baccalaureate Math. Prerequisite: proficiency in Algebra 2.

PreCalculus Instructor:  Roger Turton

Course Highlights

One interesting project students do for the winter term involves researching women mathematicians and preparing a PowerPoint presentation informing the class about these women’s lives and achievements. The Honors class usually does a project where each student compiles a set of temperature data for a different geographic location and then fits it with a sine curve following the annual change of seasons with its proper interpretation.
