CONSULTING on problem-solving methods in math.  CREATING a role-play on what would happen if a fictional character were to enroll at their school. COLLABORATING to perform an interview with a prominent woman scientist from the past.

Middle school girls learn best in relationships, when they feel comfortable with their peers and with their teachers. They are bursting with questions and are drawn to challenging, hands-on projects that connect to their own lives. In this atmosphere, they can work to develop the skills they need for success in future years in school, and throughout life. As they realize what is necessary for success, and see themselves succeeding, they develop a sense of confidence. Connectedness... competence... confidence... these three areas are fundamental to building self-esteem in girls, according to psychologist JoAnn Deak, and they are as fundamental to academics at Stoneleigh-Burnham Middle School as they are to all aspects of the program.
