The dance department at the Stoneleigh-Burnham School is designed to aid girls in the development of kinesthetic intelligence and to provide opportunities for self-expression and communication. The diverse dance curriculum includes:
- Beginner Classes
- Ballet
- Modern
- Jazz
- Pointe
- Dance Performance Project
- International Baccalaureate (IB) Dance
Through these courses dancers build self-esteem and strength. With class offerings from the beginning to advanced levels, girls discover that dance is an art form that links mind and body.
Program Highlights
- Students of all levels are provided with multiple performing opportunities. These include two Family Weekend presentations, The Winter Concert, the Spring Community Dance Concert and the Dance Performance Evening the night before graduation.
- Members of the select group, Dance Performance Project, participate in numerous festivals and benefit concerts. In the past, they have performed in Athens and London, traveled to the Soviet Union to see the Bolshoi Ballet and to visit the world famous Vaganova School.
- In the spring, the advanced dancers travel to New York City for professional-level dance classes and to see a Broadway musical.
- Master classes, with a variety of professionals, happen each year. Last year these included workshops in Alvin Ailey, Jerome Robbins, Garth Fagen and Susan Strohmann choreographic styles.
