The Sorvino Dance Intensive

2012 Camp Dates -

Session 1: July 1 - July 7, 2012 (limited space available)
Session 2: July 8 - July 14, 2012

General Information
The Sorvino Dance Intensive is designed to give young dancers training with professional instructors in a beautiful, fun-filled location with a maximum of twenty-four students. Dancers come to refine technique and prepare performance pieces. All dancers get a broad understanding of various styles while experiencing Western New England's rich dance offerings and artists. The program offers classes in ballet, jazz, and modern dance for dancers aged 12-17.

Dancers participate in a culminating performance at the end of the session. The program features a full day of classes with breaks for lunch and an afternoon swim. Instructors are professional dancers with performance experience in ballet, jazz, and modern dance. Founded in 1997, The Sorvino Dance Intensive attracts beginners and serious dancers interested in pursuing dance as a career. The Intensive is under the direction of Juilliard graduate and Stoneleigh-Burnham Dance Director Ann Sorvino and is staffed by outstanding professionals. Guest artists have included Bill Bob Brown of UMass, Marilyn Middleton of Smith College, Dr. Sharon Arselanian of Greenfield Community College, Jennifer Whitcomb of Deerfield Academy, and many more to be announced.

Camp Highlights

  • Dancers take two technique classes daily.
  • Two repertory sessions run each day in preparation for the Saturday afternoon performance.
  • On Wednesday afternoons, dancers will attend the international dance festival at Jacob's Pillow in Lee, MA to watch workshop classes, a presentation on the Inside/Out stage, and a performance on the main stage.
  • Technical and performing skills are addressed in small classes for more personal attention.
  • Swimming pool, tennis courts and weight room are available to campers.
