Visual Arts
A student works on a still life drawing project in the studio.

The study of visual art at Stoneleigh-Burnham School is an integral part of the curriculum - in addition to studio work and classes, students will explore art history and theory. Students will also be exposed to a variety of mediums through our visiting artists program, and through frequent field trips to the many wonderful area musems including MassMOCA, the Clark and others.

In the ninth grade, students are required to take Design and Color, an introductory class. After that, many students sample a wide range of arts, including drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, architecture, photography, and digital arts. For students who develop a passion, the curriculum allows for specialization in one area. International Baccalaureate Art is offered at both the standard level and higher level for students who hope to go on to study art at the college level. Art Department faculty advisors help students prepare portfolios for college.
