Program Highlights

In order to offer the best possible experience for our international students, we provide the following:

  • An International Program covering all areas of the school community. The International Program Director works to help our international students in all areas of the school. The Director is assisted by the ESL instructor as well as a committee of experienced international students, who all work to promote cross cultural exchange and understanding.
  • An ESL program that serves students whose abilities range from intermediate to advanced. The program consists of ESL support in the Middle School and Intermediate and Advanced ESL in the Upper School. An ESL Study Skills program is also available to help those moving into mainstream classes and those who may need extra support in reading and writing. All new international students are given an English placement test during the international orientation period.
  • A special one-day orientation for new international students who arrive a day earlier than other new students. In addition, special orientation meetings are held throughout the first term for new international students to help with any problems or questions.
  • Trips to local areas of interest, dinners at faculty homes and area ethnic restaurants of choice, etc.
  • College counseling by advisors who are experienced in the college admissions process for international students. International students are carefully guided through an academic program that matches their academic and English abilities. Classes may range from ESL English and history to Advanced Placement classes in all areas. College advising begins in the junior year.
  • Opportunities for international students to share their cultures with Americans through Contact (speakers, both student and adult, who talk about international issues or share knowledge about a culture), International Week (student prepared food, a program of entertainment prepared by international students, an international art exhibit, etc.), an international current events board, and other celebrations around special traditions such as Chinese New Year and Cinco de Mayo. These are just a few of the activities available.
  • An International Office that provides help in all the above areas as well as transportation, I-20 and visa problems, vacation plans, health and medical questions, counseling, communication with parents and agents/consultants and any other problems that may arise.
