On Friday morning the Stoneleigh-Burnham Parents' Association presented students, faculty and staff with a wonderful breakfast spread. The entire SBS community, including the Board of Trustees who were on campus for their January meeting, enjoyed the many homemade breakfast foods and the chance to mingle with one another.

Thank you, Parents' Association!

SBS Staff Spotlight

There is a group of people who rarely get public acknowledgement for all they do, so I would like to take an opportunity in the Snapshot to honor the work of the dedicated Staff at SBS. I believe I speak for all constituents when I say - Thank you! Each month, a different department will be acknowledged. - Sally Mixsell

This month, we are honoring the Maintenance and Grounds Department. Believe it or not, we have only 4 men who do all the work maintaining our campus and buildings. Together they have given 56 years of service to Stoneleigh-Burnham School, and we love them for it! Mark Pelis, department head, has been here for 22 years. Patrick Woods, who works with Mark in the buildings, started three years ago. Jamie Beauchesne, a licensed arborist, has given us 8 years, and Scott Jillson who works on grounds with Jamie, is in his 23rd year! All of them labor tirelessly to keep SBS pristine and well-manicured, and we have them to thank when our visitors are impressed by the beauty of this place. They are each quick to respond with a positive attitude and a great sense of humor – and Patrick has a lovely singing voice! Always there quickly in an emergency, always happy to help with heavy lifting, always reliable, forever loyal…we thank you, guys!

Boston Globe Art Awards Mentions

The 2010 Annual Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards received more the 6,500 entries in more than 500 portfolios, making it one of the most competitive years in the history of the competition.  Stoneleigh-Burnham students Lisa Cheng '10, Emily Hewlings '12, Sara Hsieh '11 and Piper Miller '15 each received Honorable Mentions for their entries.

  • Lisa Cheng for her drawing entitled Glasses.

Loving and Serving Humanity

Below is a blog post made by Stoneleigh-Burnham Middle School Dean, Bill Ivey. The post, captures the gratitude the Stoneleigh-Burnham community felt after spending a day on campus with visitor Sally Goodrich.

Loving and Serving Humanity

The Peter M. Goodrich Memorial Foundation, established after Peter’s death on board the second plane to hit the World Trade Towers on September 11, 2001, until recently worked primarily in the Pashtun provinces of Afghanistan supporting education and addressing the fundamental needs of fragile populations. In the United States the Foundation continues to work with private and public secondary schools and colleges to identify educational opportunities for student exchange.

As Chair of the Board of Families of September 11th, Peter’s father, Don, will continue to work to prevent terrorism while preserving civil liberties in the United States. Don is a trial attorney.

Peter’s mother, Sally, directs the work of the Foundation. Sally is a public school administrator.

We are joined by many who believe we can take affirmative steps to fashion a safer, more equitable world. We all share a sense of urgency and purpose. - from the homepage of the Peter M. Goodrich Foundation at http://www.goodrichfoundation.org/
