From Head of School Sally Mixsell
We are looking forward to greeting many of you for Family Weekend next Friday and Saturday! The weather is warming up here in Greenfield, and we're hoping to have green fields (no pun intended!) by Friday. All things going well, you may see some of the forsythia popping out as well.

As you are all now aware, we have recently been authorized as an IB World School and have felt very proud of the work we have done to be ready for that initiative. All teachers involved in the IB program have been trained - an effort that took us most of last spring and summer. Our goal is to train all faculty in the IB program over the next few years. This spring we are turning our professional development attention elsewhere and are learning more about gender identification and expression. In addition, SBS will be hosting a meeting of several boarding school deans and department chairs (including some of our own) on April 21st. They will be in a leadership workshop with Dr. Hugh O'Doherty of the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard who will speak about leading through change. Natalie Demers, Academic Dean, has coordinated this event.

I'll hope to see you next weekend!
Sally

Community Service Commendation
Ninth grader Jessie Bartolotta was honored on Tuesday with a special Citation from the Massachusetts State House of Representatives for her dedication, compassion and continued service to the residents of the Poet's Seat Health Care Center. Congratulations, Jessie!

The Poet's Seat Health Care Center is a nursing and rehabilitation center in Greenfield. Stoneleigh-Burnham School has had a relationship with the Center for years, as many of our students have dedicated hours of voluntary service to helping and visiting their residents. Jessie has been volunteering there for three years and doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon!
Fresh Off the Press: Minerva
April is Poetry Month and the School's literary magazine, Minerva, will arrive just in time! The Literary Society accepted submissions from student writers and worked with advisor, Shawn Durrett, to assemble a creative showcase of student work. This year's magazine features creative nonfiction, fiction, poetry and a variety of visual artwork such as pointillist paintings, photography, sculpture, monotype, pencil drawings and pastel.

One free copy of Minerva will be available to each of our students. Parents and community members can purchase copies for $10.00 each in our bookstore during Spring Family Weekend.
