The Humanities 7 class has been working closely with Mr. Bogel's Sophomore Honors English class on a poetry project. Working in groups joining one sophomore with one or two 7th graders, the students were to select a poem, think about and analyze it, learn about the poet, and design a plan to teach the poem to the combined classes. By the time you read this newsletter, the groups will have met three times and begun their presentations. The assessment checklist was designed collaboratively by the students and focuses on confidence, presentation skills such as eye contact and articulation, knowledge and familiarity of the poem and the poet, inclusiveness of all members of the group, and interest level of the class. It has been a delight to see the students working so well together, and Mr. Bogel and I are looking forward to the presentations. |

Humanities 8 |

Humanities 8 is quite busy working on several different projects. Each student designed her own research unit related to World War II and worked on it almost entirely autonomously as this was the final research project of the year. The students are also working on their independent writing projects with which, unlike earlier in the year, they have complete flexibility on their final product as long as the piece meets certain writing standards. The class has come a long way with skill development, and we look forward to hearing what each student has written. |

The Middle School 'Select' Choir recently performed an impromptu set for the Board of Trustees who were visiting Stoneleigh-Burnham April 14-15. During the lunch meeting the Board was having with the administration, the Select singers were invited in and sang two songs: "Africa" & "Find The Cost Of Freedom" for those gathered in the meeting room. The students sang wonderfully and made quite an impression. The upper school music concert was this Friday, April 22, 1:00pm. The entire middle school chorus was invited to join their high school peers for a song or two during the show. Audiences were thrilled to hear the combined sound of Stoneleigh-Burnham's many talented singers of all age levels. It was quite a treat!
And finally, if you want to hear more of the middle school performing groups, both vocal and instrumental, come to the concert on Friday, May 20, 7:00pm. |
