When is Mountain Day?
The date is a carefully guarded secret, but it is generally a weekday during fall term. The announcement will be made to seniors and day parents the night before. On Mountain Day, classes are cancelled and Big Sisters wake up their Little Sisters and treat them to breakfast at a local restaurant. The entire community travels to a nearby mountain for a day of hiking, activities, enjoying lunch and having fun together.
Upcoming College Admissions Visits!
These are informal informational sessions designed to help acquaint students with what the colleges have to offer. These visits are also opportunities to practice interview skills in a relaxed atmosphere. Please encourage your daughters to attend these visits as their schedules allow.

Fall Horse Trials
In spite of the rain, the Stoneleigh-Burnham Fall Horse Trials were a big success. Two of our 9th grade students, Francesca E. '15 and Heather D. '15 both competed in the event. Francesca E. '15 placed 1st in the Introductory Beginner Novice division and Heather D. '15 placed 2nd in the same division. Francesca and Heather are both members of the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) team and will be competing in the Wachusett IEA Show on October 8, 2011.

Congratulations girls!
Massachusetts' Concussion Law

On July 19, 2010, Massachusetts' Concussion Law went into effect.  While the law only applies to schools competing in the MIAA, Stoneleigh-Burnham School has chosen to use the law as a minimum standard of care for our students.  Our current Concussion Testing and Management Protocol is above what the State requires and we are in our second year of using the ImPACT computerized concussion evaluation system.

In addition to setting guidelines for athletes following a concussion, the law requires education of all coaches, parents and administrators at MIAA schools.  At Stoneleigh-Burnham School we have taken this step as well by requiring that all coaches, AODs and Houseparents participate in an online training session provided by the CDC.  We encourage all SBS parents to participate in the training by completing the online course which can be found here.

Please contact Matt Fisher (mfisher@sbschool.org) with any questions regarding head injuries or our policy on their management.
