As part of the Miriam Emerson Peters Speaker Series, Professor Gail
Carlson of Colby College will speak at Stoneleigh-Burnham School on
Thursday, November 10th at 7 p.m. to address the environmental and human health
impacts of the production, use and disposal of everyday products from
cosmetics and cookware to computers and carpets. Professor Carlson will focus also on what actions we (as consumers, and more importantly, as voters) can take to protect ourselves and others from these health risks.
Gail Carlson teaches courses in the Environmental Studies Program at Colby College, including "The Environment and Human Health" and "Environmental Activism." She is on the Board of Directors of the Environmental Health Strategy Center, a Maine-based nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting people from environmental hazards. She has a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Originally from Wisconsin, Gail lives in Waterville, Maine with her husband and two children.
Established in 2009, the mission of the Miriam Emerson Peters Speaker
Series is to develop opportunities for the Stoneleigh-Burnham School
community to learn about and engage in dialogue about international
issues. The series is free and open to the public.
