Dar Williams is set to perform in Northampton at the Iron Horse Music Hall on Friday, December 2nd, but before she takes the stage that night she’ll visit our School for a private performance and a special workshop with our student vocalists and musicians.
Dar Williams’ celebrated career in music has its roots in the Pioneer Valley – she spent ten years performing in the coffeehouses of Northampton. According to Performing Songwriter magazine, Dar Williams is, “a leader in the folk-pop movement....” Her music is known for being deeply personal and honest, often exploring themes of social-activism, hope, empowerment and heartache.
Tony Lechner, the School’s choral director and an award-winning composer, arranger and producer, invited Dar to come perform at Stoneleigh-Burnham School. “It’s important for our students to meet and interact with talented, successful, professional women who can inspire them to follow their dreams,” says Lechner. “It’s my hope that students who are considering a career in the arts will benefit from hearing Dar perform and talk, especially during the Q&A session after the performance.”
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Williams “savors [her] role as an artist and activist.” It is this activism that is carrying her music to a new generation of fans. During the summer of 2011, Williams travelled to various children’s summer camps to educate youth about the global collapse of bee colonies. When she visits Stoneleigh-Burnham School, her artistry, talent and dedication to using her influence to inspire change is sure to impress.
Williams’ performance at Stoneleigh-Burnham School is closed to the public, but tickets are still available for her two shows at the Iron Horse on December 2nd and 3rd, both at 7 p.m. To purchase tickets, please visit the Iron Horse Entertainment Group.
