Winter Solstice Concert will celebrate the season!
Stoneleigh-Burnham School will present its annual Winter Solstice Concert Thursday, December 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the school’s Emerson Hall. The concert is free and open to the public. Featuring Stoneleigh-Burnham’s exemplary and award-winning Performing Arts Department, the concert will showcase productions from vocal and instrumental groups, and dance.
 
To set the tone of the season, the school’s chorus conducted by Tony Lechner will perform Guaraldi’s “My Little Drum,” and Mozart’s “Ave Verum.” Octet, Middle School Vocal Music, and Middle School Select Chorus will follow with a selection of seasonal favorites including “Sleigh Ride” and a contemporary classic, “Winter Song” by Sara Bareilles.

The multi-talented Swartzentruber sisters will perform their vocal arrangement of “The Parting Glass” by the Wailin’ Jennys. An instrumental group conducted by Dr. Greg Snedeker will follow with “Hava Nagila,” “St. Anne’s Reel” and a classical piece from Shubert. Jazz Combo and Big Band will perform contemporary favorites such as “Come Away With Me,” by Norah Jones and “25 or 6 to 4” by Chicago.

The evening will conclude with several dance pieces. Kiriko Emi, an accomplished 12th grade dancer will perform her self-choreographed piece, “Last Carnival” set to music of Norihito Tsuru. Dance 8 will pick up the pace with a salsa dance choreographed by Ann Sorvino. Wrapping up the evening with a fun and dramatic dance piece, the school’s dance department will perform an abridged version of Alice in Wonderland featuring choreography by Ann Sorvino and Kelly Griffin and music by Danny Elfman.
