| back | | George Halkett Appointed as Director of the Equestrian Center | | | Stoneleigh-Burnham School is pleased to announce the appointment of George Halkett as the Director of the Equestrian Center. In this capacity, Halkett will be responsible for overseeing the coordination, synergy and success of all SBS equestrian programs.
Halkett joins Director of Riding, Mina Payne Williams ’78 who has been at Stoneleigh-Burnham School in a professional capacity for over 30 years. Williams has a diverse and competitive background in hunters, jumpers, eventing and dressage and says that what she enjoys most is her work with students. Williams will continue her work as Director of Riding, overseeing all aspects of the student experience and coaching the IEA team.
A native of Scotland, Halkett is returning to Stoneleigh-Burnham School after a successful tenure at Albion College. While at Albion, Halkett designed and oversaw the construction of a state of the art equestrian center, recruited students and helped the school achieve certification as a British Horse Society International Certificate program.
Throughout his career, Halkett has been active in competition and instruction. He served as a member of the Queen’s Household Cavalry in the British Army, competed internationally and coached students to international competitions including the FEI Samsung International, Volvo World Cup and the International Intercollegiate World Championships. During his previous tenure at Stoneleigh-Burnham School, Halkett helped coach students to four national titles in three years including the Interscholastic Equestrian Association National championship title in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and the Interscholastic Dressage Association National championship in 2002. In addition the Stoneleigh-Burnham team brought home a silver medal at the Northeast Junior/Young Riders Dressage Championships in 2003.
Stoneleigh-Burnham School has a long and impressive equestrian history, which can be traced to the Elmhurst School in the early 1900s. Throughout the years, equestrian programs have been a part of the culture of each of the five founding schools. Today, Stoneleigh-Burnham School boasts a strong equestrian program with outstanding equestrian facilities. | | back | |
