The Stoneleigh-Burnham Equestrian Center hosts the Region III Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Finals this weekend Saturday, February 27. Ten high school teams, eight middle school teams and 175 individual riders from western Massachusetts and Connecticut will compete on Stoneleigh-Burnham horses in order to qualify for the Zone I finals in March. 

Competing for the Stoneleigh-Burnham IEA Team are:

Callan Franchi (Intermediate)
Rachel Gledhill (Novice)
Paige Koning (Beginner)

Competing individually are:
Kelly Siok (Open Flat and Over Fences)
Callan Franchi (Intermediate Flat)
Rachel Gledhill (Novice Fences and Novice Flat)
Kristina Athey (Novice Fences)
Hannah Reynolds (Novice Fences)
Paige Koning (Beginner Flat)

Formally established in the spring of 2002, IEA was formed and organized to promote and improve the quality of equestrian competition and instruction available to middle and secondary school students. The mission of IEA is to introduce students in private and public middle and secondary schools to equestrian sports, to provide information concerning the creation and development of school associated equestrian programs, to develop understanding and appreciation of equestrian sports through organized student competitions, to provide students with organized competitive events and to provide additional equine educational opportunities. Currently, there are few opportunities for these students to earn scholarship money, through the IEA, students may have the opportunity to earn scholarships towards their college education.  (www.rideiea.com) 

The Stoneleigh-Burnham School Region Three IEA Finals are Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.
