International Baccalaureate (IB) Chinese II (Standard Level)

IB Chinese (Language B) is a two-year program that follows guidelines from the International Baccalaureate. The course exposes students to a range of topics (see below) and enhances students’ language proficiency through receptive, productive and interactive assessments. Pedagogical textbooks will be used in class, but authentic material will be regularly introduced as well. IB Chinese II is the second year in the IB Chinese (Language B) program. Students are required to practice with native Chinese speakers beyond the class. Demonstrating the ability to hand-write a 300-400 words paper plus a 100-word rationale that reflects their understanding of one of the topics below is one of the key skills in the IB language curriculum. The ultimate goal is to help students use Chinese in real-life situations, to help students cultivate lifelong Chinese language learning, and to help students appreciate their own cultures and Chinese culture. Cultural activities such as Chinese Night or Chinese Table will be offered throughout the year.
