Maia Santo-Castros ’20 was featured on Greenfield Community Television (GCTV) discussing her artwork portraying civil rights pioneer Sylvia Mendez, which was recently chosen for a prize in an international student art competition. Maia won the junior division prize in the Unsung Heroes Art Competition which was sponsored by the Lowell Milken Center (LMC) for Unsung Heroes, part of the Milken Family Foundation.
GCTV producer Philippe Guy Simon visited campus recently and interviewed Maia about her paper collage showing a portrait of Mendez surrounded by words that defined the racism and discrimination of her time. He also interviewed Middle School Dean Bill Ivey.
