Senior Chinasa (Rosemary) Ilang has signed her National Letter of Intent to play division I basketball at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey. During her junior year, Rosemary was the leading scorer for the Stoneleigh-Burnham Varsity Basketball team and averaged 18 rebounds, and 12 points per game. In the 2012-13 season, she was the 2nd highest scorer and held the highest number of rebounds.

Rosemary came to Stoneleigh-Burnham School from Nigeria, where she only began playing the game of basketball in 2010. About the game and what it has meant for her life, Rosemary said, “Basketball is my place of peace. It’s the one thing that makes me really happy. A former coach told me that every player on the court has a role, each of us just needs to determine what that role is and then excel at it. For me, I just love rebounding.”

At Monmouth, Rosemary will surely put her talent and passion to work. She will play for Jenny Palmateer, who is in her fourth year as Head Coach and who just received a three-year contract extension through 2018-19.

Congratulations to Rosemary and best of luck to the entire Stoneleigh-Burnham Varsity Basketball team as they look to their official season start against Miss Hall’s School on December 6th.
