Clara Swartzentruber ‘16 and Charlotte Minsky ’16 placed 1st and 2nd, respectively, in Impromptu Speaking at the Robert H. Gile Tournament of Champions on April 19.
Members of the SBS Debate and Public Speaking Society, Clara and Charlotte were selected by their coaches to compete in the tournament for top-tier competitors.
Stoneleigh-Burnham placed 4th overall in the tournament, which brought together 16 competitors from eight schools.
Paul Bassett, head coach of the SBS Debate and Public Speaking Society, said the Tournament of Champions is a new competition that gives students the opportunity to compete against the best debaters.
“The Impromptu Speaking division was a highlight of the tournament, and our students swept the division,” Bassett said when announcing the results of the tournament at Housemeeting.
The SBS Debate and Public Speaking Society is a member of the Debating Association of New England Independent Schools (DANEIS), which sponsored the tournament at at St. Sebastian’s School in Needham, MA.
