Sophie Hathaway ’18 earned first place in After-Dinner Speaking at a public speaking competition at Kingswood Oxford in West Hartford, CT on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017.
Dr. Paul Bassett, head coach of the Stoneleigh-Burnham Debate and Public Speaking Society, said this is the second year in a row that she has placed first in this category at this competition. Hathaway also placed third in Impromptu Speaking.
“She’s on a roll,” Bassett said. “She’s doing just great.”
Hathaway has previously qualified as a world competitor as part of the U.S. Team at the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championship in Sydney, Australia this spring.
