Karen Pleasant came to Stoneleigh-Burnham in the fall of 2009 after teaching for almost a decade in the History Department at Northfield Mount Hermon School. She holds a BA from Skidmore College where she was a double major in History and Political Science and earned her MAT, with a concentration in History, from Smith College. Her academic focus was in 20th Century World History and current events; a perfect match for the SBS IB curriculum which she passionately supports. In college she enhanced her studies by spending her junior year at the University of Complutense in Madrid and as a student at Saint Anne’s College at Oxford University. Bolstered by her love of travel and experiential learning, Karen has lead student groups on historical and cultural trips to Washington D.C., Spain, France, Costa Rica, Greece, the Dominican Republic, and South Africa, as well as taught at the Summer Academy in Cape Town. Along with her department responsibilities, Karen co-leads the SBS Debate and Public Speaking Society and coaches winter fitness. She and her husband, Tod, live off-campus with their dog, Darwin.
