Sophie Hathaway ‘18 has made the finals in two events at the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championship in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Paul Bassett, head coach of the Stoneleigh-Burnham Debate and Public Speaking Society, reported that Hathaway has made the finals in both After Dinner Speaking and Interpretive Reading, two of four events in which every student competes. Dr. Bassett said that typically six to eight competitors make the finals in each of the four events, which also include Impromptu Speaking and Debate. The competition continues through today, Wednesday, April 12 as students vie for World Champion overall and in each of the categories.
