Since the founding of Stoneleigh-Burnham, individuals dedicated to our long-term success have set up planned gifts for our benefit. Some donors included us as a beneficiary of their will, retirement plan (401(k), 403(b), IRA, etc.) or life insurance policy while others added to our endowment to continue their annual support after they were gone. Each of these individuals believed in our mission and wanted to be sure we could continue to thrive and grow into the future. For this special group, and with the generous support of the Sayles family, we created The Patricia Blake Sayles ’51 SPH and Thomas D. Sayles, Jr. Planned Giving Society. The Sayles Planned Giving Society is open to all individuals who have named us in their long-term plans or created an endowment for our benefit. Complete the Sayles Society membership form.

In addition to need-based financial aid, Stoneleigh-Burnham School offers merit scholarships. Your gift to the scholarship fund in general or a dedicated scholarship in particular honor exceptional students who enhance the community of Stoneleigh-Burnham and, ultimately, the broader world.

Sally Mixsell ‘69 Scholarship

The Sally Mixsell ’69 Endowed Scholarship Fund was created in 2017 through a gift from Laura Richards ‘60S. It honors Sally Leach Mixsell ‘69, Stoneleigh-Burnham Head of School from FY08 to FY18. The donor’s intent is to recognize the outstanding leadership provided by Sally Mixsell to Stoneleigh-Burnham School in her various roles serving on the Alumnae Board, the Board of Trustees, and as Head of School. The donor wishes to encourage alumnae, parents, and friends to contribute to the Scholarship in Sally’s honor. The scholarship will be awarded to a new or returning student who demonstrates leadership and school spirit.

Amy M. Spencer Scholarship

The Amy Spencer Endowed Scholarship Fund was initiated in 2001 by Robert and Sally Spencer in memory of their daughter Amy Marie Spencer ’03. The scholarship was officially established in 2011. Gifts from family and friends have also contributed to the Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to a Franklin County resident, based on financial need, to help pay for the cost of day student tuition.

Elizabeth Guyer Ebel Scholarship

The Elizabeth Guyer Ebel Scholarship Fund was established in September 2018 through the Elizabeth Guyer Ebel Trust in memory of Elizabeth Guyer Ebel. Elizabeth “Betty” Guyer Ebel ’49 was a student for just one year at the Mary A. Burnham School. After completing her education, she enjoyed a long career at The New Yorker as a reporter and editor, and maintained a lifelong connection with Stoneleigh-Burnham as a donor. Sadly, Mrs. Ebel and her husband, Donald, passed away within months of each other in 2017. This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving recipient as determined by the Director of Enrollment Management.

The Dorrance Scholarship in Memory of Bonnie Benn Jesser SPH ’63

The family of Jacquelynn Dorrance SPH ’64 has endowed this scholarship in memory of Bonnie Benn Jesser SPH ’63, whose life ended tragically soon after her graduation from Stoneleigh-Prospect Hill School. The Dorrance Scholarship is awarded to a girl who exhibits interest in and enthusiasm for extra-curricular activities. Like Bonnie Benn, she should also have contagious enthusiasm, a strong sense of sportsmanship, and an interest in service to others. This scholarship is granted each year to an incoming student.

The Mr. and Mrs. “E” Alumnae Scholarship

The Mr. and Mrs. “E” Scholarship is named for Mr. and Mrs. Edward E. Emerson who led Stoneleigh-Prospect Hill and then Stoneleigh-Burnham from 1950-1970. It is awarded annually to a candidate who has demonstrated above-average academic ability and well-rounded interests and talents in their school community. A strong sense of community responsibility and care for family and friends, traits instilled by the Emersons, are also considered. Preference for this award will be given to a relative of an alumna.

The Iampietro Scholarship

The Iampietro Scholarship was created by alumnae of the 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s. The scholarship honors Tom and Candy Iampietro, who taught History and English, respectively, at SBS from 1983-2003. Many alumnae, parents, and friends contributed. The scholarship was established to reward a student who demonstrates passion for the Humanities, mirroring what Tom and Candy displayed in their teaching.

The C. Robert Wray Scholarship

The C. Robert Wray Scholarship is awarded annually to a student or students who embody the characteristics that Mr. Wray endeavored to instill in his students over his 18-year tenure as Head of the School. The recipient(s) must show character, integrity, demonstrated potential for leadership, and contribution to the community as well as proven academic success. Prospective students, as well as returning students, are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
