Empowering Girls to Lift Up Their Voice

You Are Here
You Are Unique

You Have Much to Offer

Your Voice Will Enrich the World

This camp offers a stimulating and supportive environment to develop your own voice as a speaker, thinker, and advocate. You will learn (or further develop your skills):

  • To give a short speech on the spot about almost anything at all–it can be funny or serious, deep or silly.
  • To build a powerful speech that persuades people to think differently about something meaningful to you.
  • To write a satirical speech that makes an important point but in a hilarious way.
  • To put your own stamp on the words of a famous author by speaking those words with character, style, and panache; and,
  • To work with a partner to build arguments and win debates over serious (and sometimes not so serious) topics.

Parliamentary Debate
Impromptu Speaking

Interpretive Reading

Persuasive Speech

Satirical Speech (“After Dinner”)

You will emerge from this camp with increased proficiency in all of these different events which feature at tournaments offered by the Debating Association of New England Independent Schools (DANEIS). Your instructors will include Stoneleigh-Burnham’s debate coaching faculty and experienced student competitors in Stoneleigh’s Debate and Public Speaking Society.

In addition, a visit to Yale University to meet with the Yale Debate Association and a quick campus tour is currently being planned.

But that is not all! Be prepared to enjoy Stoneleigh-Burnham’s gorgeous campus, daily swimming in the pool, plenty of social time with special treats, games, movie nights, and other fun activities. This will be the experience of a lifetime. Don’t miss it!
