Blue Key: Hassana ‘24

Hassana is a 7-day boarding student from New Jersey and joined the SBS community in Grade 9.

As a boarding student, Hassana lives and learns with students from around the country and around the world.

Where is your favorite spot on campus?
As a boarding student, the Common Room on the 9th & 10th Grade hallway is my favorite place because we all get together and play games or talk. With my day student friends, the Capen Room is my favorite because it’s kind of like a community hub— and it has a really comfy couch!

What's your favorite meal served in the Dining Hall?
Ice cream sundaes, because it’s ice cream.

What's your favorite SBS tradition?
100 Nights was beautiful. At this particular event, the senior class dresses up and shares their favorite memories. It’s scheduled 100 nights before graduation and it is almost magical.

What's your favorite class?
History is currently my favorite class. We have many endless discussions and the class is never easy, which doesn’t seem appealing, but I came to boarding school to be challenged so I’m glad I get to have this experience.

What sports/clubs/activities are you involved in?
I am involved in Students Of Color (SOC) affinity group, Student Alumnae Association (SAA), the Blue Key Ambassadors, and I am Grade 10 Vice President.

What's your secret talent?
I am a very good cook.

Who in the community to do you turn to for help/support and why?
I turn to my advisor, Apple, or the DEI Director, Amanda, and Assistant DEI Director, Sam, because those are the people I trust, that I believe understand me, will always have my best interest at heart, and will advocate for me.

What is something that surprised you about SBS?
I was surprised that SBS is so open and non-judgemental. I was pleasantly surprised by some of the best friends I’ve ever had.

What's a risk you've taken while at SBS?
Speaking at Housemeeting (our weekly community meeting) the few times I have.
